Review on Faber Castell Gel Crayons Vibrant by Michelle Langley

Messy and not for everyone

This is for 'little artists' as stated on the packaging but I wouldn't recommend them for most children or serious artists of any size. (And not as a marker.) They're too wide for those who value precision and too sloppy for those who value accuracy. Most of the crayons lost parts of themselves when I used them. I'm an adult, so if I make a mess, I can clean it up. A small child can soon be covered in smears and crayon flakes. Too bad because the texture would be really nice if only the colored pencil stayed intact and didn't leave little crumbs on the paper. Problem. There are five crayons in regular shades, then five more of the same color in neon shades, and then there's black and silver. There is no white (probably a useless pencil), no purple, no brown. Upon unpacking, I found the plastic case (which I generally love) to be a bit oily. Now I'm not sure if the oil perceived is from inside the plastic wrap or from outside the plastic wrap (maybe from another source). If the gel components can separate, I would be concerned about that too.

Pros
  • INCLUDES A CARRYING CASE: To make it easy for anyone to become an artist on the go, this gel crayon set includes a durable plastic storage case and booklet for easy portability.
Cons
  • unreliable
