New must-have home appliance

Looking at my 1 gallon plastic bag of batteries for recycling I thought how great it would be if I could get a little more life out of them. Then I found an ad for this charger in Popular Mechanics and decided to give it a try. And it really works! Every battery is now a rechargeable battery. I charged several Energizer batteries which read about 1.0v on my multimeter and after charging it went up to 1.4v; good enough for most household needs. If you have kids, chances are you're using batteries like crazy to power toys and electronics. Do yourself a favor and invest in one of these chargers. There is no need to buy more expensive rechargeable batteries as standard alkaline batteries last longer. Now I don't know how long a recharged battery will last and I don't know the discharge rate. Let's hope a charged alkaline battery doesn't drop from 1.4V to full discharge after a few uses. I don't expect a charged battery to last as long as a new one. But if I can get a little more value out of the battery, I can cut costs and help the environment.
