Conclusion After disassembling and shortening the pop up arm, it now works correctly with the vent louvers on my 2012 Toyota Tundra. I love it. Definitely the most secure vent mount design I've ever used. And my iPhone 12 Pro mounts securely in both landscape and portrait modes. All the details: When I first tried to mount it in my truck I couldn't get a solid mount. Essentially a J-shaped arm that moves in and out. Well, it hasn't advanced far enough to securely grip the relatively thin vent flaps in my truck. I noticed that the arm "sticked out" a considerable distance - much more than I needed. So I figured if the lever was shorter it could retract further into the body. I considered returning it but then decided it was worth playing around with as it wasn't that expensive to begin with. Very glad I did as my intuition was right and a simple mod made this fit perfectly. Here are the basic steps: - First remove the black neoprene pad to reveal the 2 screws holding the case together. - Unscrew the screws and then remove the plastic front panel through which the screws went. - Now you can easily remove the metal bracket "J". Use tin snips to snip off part of the end (not the "J" end of course) to adjust the length to your needs. In my case I remove about 1/4 inch. Reassemble by inserting the shortened J-Bracket, then reinstall the plastic bezel (ensure correct orientation) and secure with 2 screws. Finally, attach the self-adhesive neoprene pad. If you've done everything right, you'll find that the J-Bracket will retract further into the case than before and you should be able to install it safely. Much luck!
