Review on πŸ“‘ Tram 1410 Broadband Discone Base Antenna for Scanners by Nigel Cohen

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Looks great for AV accessories

Post install update: A few weeks ago my old antenna completely melted in a hurricane. I installed a new antenna over the weekend and am very satisfied. The reception on 700/800/900 MHz has been greatly improved. UHF also improved, but not as much as at higher frequencies. The small VHF and VHF-Lo I programmed also seem to be better. It's a bit surprising that this scanner is a little less visible than the old one. Which I don't care but might make the neighbors happier. Definitely "recommended", however if you have a lot of VHF Lo you might want to use the 1411. This is a first review, I will update it once. I installed and started the antenna. A few notes on the design. All fittings are metric. Nuts are 7mm and set screws require a 3.0m hex wrench. No wonder since they are made in Taiwan. I added a lock washer to all radials before assembly. They give extra density and I don't want to hunt free radials in the future. There were some comments about adding a vertical whip. As far as I can tell it would be easier to buy the 1411 streetcar for the extra $14. If you really need a low frequency band then this is what you need.

Pros
  • 25/1300MHz broadband reception
Cons
  • old
