Review on πŸ“» BAOFENG Tri-Power Two-Way Radio Transceiver: 2 Pack 8W Radios with Bonus Extras, Black by Raymond Gray

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Great price but there are some caveats.

I purchased this radio through Revain and it arrived very quickly within 2-3 days. Great job Raven! I fully charged the battery for over 5 hours last night before using it as per the manual. I replaced the antenna with a longer Nagoya antenna for better transmission and reception. I had the radio on and listened to it for about three hours, turning it on and off. I then decided to try broadcasting and ended up talking for 15-20 minutes before the battery died. In my conversation, I switched from the built-in microphone to another, better external microphone because another amateur reported that my audio was soft or narrow. Switching to an external microphone improved my signal somewhat. It's a good radio for the price. What really drew me to this radio was the three levels of RF power: 1W / 4W / 8W, so I had SWR and a wattmeter plugged in during the call. The high power output was no more than 5.2W, the middle power was 4.0W, and the low power was 2.0W, it was 70cm and 2 meters. So I've never been able to get 8 watts of RF. Interesting, but still worked well at max 5 watts. Anyway, I gave it three stars because they said it put out 8 watts, but I could never get that kind of output. Good light weight radio on a budget just make sure you have a backup power supply for it. Thank you KF7AIR.
