Review on πŸ”Œ WiFi Ceiling Fan Switch and Light Remote Control Kit, Smart Fan Controller Compatible with Alexa and Google, Phone APP Control, No Hub Required, Universal Fan Light Remote Control by Shane Minter

Works as intended. I recommend for most.

I bought 2 of these for 2 old ceiling fans. It didn't fit into the fan mount as expected, but the canopy is large enough to attach to the ceiling with strong double-sided tape. The board works great. The Tuya app works great too. This should be exactly what most people are looking for. 2 cons for my use case: 1. I should have researched more. I assumed it was an ESP8266 or ESP32 based controller and I could use tuya-convert to install my own ESPHome firmware (to escape the "cloud"). Now that I know it's a QIACHIP device I'm still not sure which board it is exactly and if I can flash it. And what is installed, I'm afraid to try. I'll try the second one as soon as I connect it to power.2. As for #1, if you use it with Tuya or SmartLife out of the box, Tuya's Home Assistant integration can't see the fan controller. I've searched and this seems to be a common/known thing. So. My whole intention of getting a WiFi controller to control these ceiling fans with Home Assistant is still a long way off. However, there can be light. To drive another fan we just bought that runs at 433Mhz but no wifi, I have a SONOS HF bridge to go with. I should be able to hook up remotes to it and then control the fans via HA. Kind of negates the need for WiFi. but that's life.

Pros
  • Excellent design
Cons
  • Long delivery time
