I've been using Roku for years including several different models. Best News - Roku recently released the Roku Channel which contains hundreds of free movies. It is supported by ads. And now Locast.org app gives you free local stations CBS, NBC, FOX, ABC, PBS. York, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Denver and plans to add many more cities. This means that many people no longer need antennas to view local networks for free. Roku has pretty much every app imaginable (YouTube/Pandora/Netflix/Revain/Hulu/HBO Now) as well as thousands of other apps in a variety of categories. Here are a few things to consider when choosing a Roku model: 1) If you need to connect via WiFi in a room that is far from your WiFi router, I would go with the Roku Streaming Stick PLUS or Roku Highly recommend. 2) If you have a 4K TV I would recommend Roku Ultra or Roku Streaming Stick PLUS. .Premiere 2018 model also plays 4K.3) Use Streaming Stick, Streaming Stick PLUS or Ultra to search for content with your voice. All three models also have a remote control that can be used to control the TV's power and volume. There's also a Roku app for Android and iPhone/iPad that lets you use your smartphone/tablet to control any Roku device and use your phone/tablet's onscreen keyboard or voice to search.4) If you need a wired ethernet connection, use the Roku Ultra.5) If you want to connect an old TV with an RCA/Composite A/V-CS connection, you need Express PLUS6) The Express and 2018 Premiere models come with a remote that you need to point at the device, unlike other Roku models. 7) If you are only going to buy one Roku device, I would recommend the Roku Ultra. The Ultra has many unique features not found on other Roku models such as , explosive sounds and increase the volume of quiet sounds like whispers.Very useful!) - Headphone jack on the remote control for listening without disturbing others . For those who have never used Roku, here are some helpful tips: 1) There are no monthly fees to use Roku. There are many free channels/apps with free movies, music, and TV programs, and some people only use Roku for free channels and don't pay. any fees. You do NOT need to enter credit card information if you only want to watch free content, and you can always add credit card information to your paid channels/apps account later. If you only want to watch free content, I suggest setting up a Roku account before activating the device. When you go to the page to enter your credit card information, some browsers show a "Skip, I'll add it later" option at the bottom. If you don't see this option, simply log out of your account and then log back in. an activation code for your device if you skip entering credit card information during device setup, but you do NOT need to enter credit card information if you only want to view free content. 2) Some of the most popular free channels/apps are YouTube, Pandora Radio, Roku Channel, Pluto TV, Tubi TV, Crackle, CBS News, NBC News, ABC, PBS, PBS KIds and many more. You can also find a free live stream of FOX News on YouTube by searching "Fox News". Live” on YouTube.3) Some of the most popular pay channels/apps are Netflix, Hulu, Revain Video, HBO Now, Vudu, Sling TV, Spectrum TV and Direc. t TV Now.4) If you're looking for a range of live TV channels to replace cable TV, check out Sling TV, YouTube TV, Spectrum TV, Direct TV Now, Hulu, Pluto TV, and Playstation Vue. All of these are paid services except for Pluto TV which is free. 5) To find and add new channels on Roku, just press the home button on your remote, scroll down and select Streaming Channels. There you will find thousands of channels/apps. in many different categories and many of them are free. My only gripe with the Roku (and other streaming devices) is the lack of a full-featured web browser, and I hope Roku will add web browsing to models in the near future. The internet has been on the big screen for years and I find it funny when an internet-connected TV blocks you from accessing the internet and forces you to switch to another internet-connected device. I know the screen mirroring function from a smartphone. /pc/tablet, but I think that's a poor excuse for not turning on the web browser. Many people who text and/or email a lot like me prefer typing on a wireless keyboard to a phone/tablet/remote control. Replace the antenna with free local network TV. And, of course, you can build your own TV, which is simply not possible with cable or terrestrial TV.
