This damper applies outward pressure, fighting the steering and causing the truck to sway. I have completely restored the front end, all ball joints, tie rods, steering rack, wheel bearings, etc., all new and calibrated. I couldn't figure out why it was wandering until I released the damper, whereupon it magically moved straight ahead. Tried a cheap Monroe shock from a parts store just for comparison, the truck drives great. I contacted Bilstein with the issue and they say it works as intended and needs 'correct alignment'. I've had many shock absorbers on many trucks and none of them applied pressure in any direction, they just resisted movement to absorb shock to the steering box, that's their purpose. So much for the reputation of the Bilsteins. Never again.
