Quality replacement.

I normally only use OEM for the steering but after 160,000 miles I decided to save $30. I can say I have no complaints, it mounts directly to the standard brackets. The valves are perfect, we've heard all the death wobble stories and after 5,000 miles they're still gone. The only question left for me is how long it will last.

Made in China - Steering Damper & Sway Bars

I bought a Monroe that didn't last long and then bought a Rancho damper. The Rancho shock looked like it had been repainted at a junkyard. Refurbished Both dampers are not the newest. I found out that Monroe bought the ranch. I looked at the warranty, followed the link, but the warranty period was not indicated at all. Made in China. Spend some money and find a damper that lasts over 2 years.

The fit isn't quite correct but it looks like a tight damper

Doesn't fit perfectly. (2000 Excursion V10) Needed some modifications to fit, had to use OEM screws again as supplied hardware didn't work. Other than that, it made a huge difference in the steering. Case not included, sold separately. As for the reviews, it looks like the real test is durability, so we'll see. Feels tighter, tighter steering, less wander.

GOOD OEM part - unbeatable for the price - .

GOOD OEM part - unbeatable price - straight bolts - only thing I didn't like was the joint gasket and bolt which makes installation easier. This block is slightly larger than a Motorcraft OEM part. I have OCD so most don't mind. A real locknut and big washer with a real class bolt would have been a little better than the Monroe engineers, but for the money it's a fair bit.

Pros
  • Hands free operation
Cons
  • Not trendy

The first one failed quite quickly - approx 2 years of road use, mostly on the Autobahn. This one came and didn't have the same hardware as the first one (screws) and I couldn't reuse my hardware. It is not compatible with the 1999 F350 Super Duty Diesel engine. Also odd is that the country of origin is the United States, although the description indicates it was made in China. I'm definitely interested in Monroe's quality control. It's too late to buy a new one, so it's going back.

Fits my 03 Excursion 4x4 with 6.0 PSD like a glove. I don't know why people put so much emphasis on installation. This is just a shock. The installation took me 5 minutes. I even used the included brake hardware and used the OEM hardware on the passenger side axle. Then I put a nice sticker on the new shock absorber. !Update: March 2020: on my 3rd b.c. I keep breaking that stabilizer bar shock absorber when driving off-road

More in stock: Dampers & Steering Stabilizers

Only came with the socket end screw (and socket), I had to move the screw to the other end. Not much, but it would be nice not to have to make a separate trip to the hardware store. It's larger than the stock (2003 F350) and does a great job of getting rid of the steering play that these trucks are known for. Came up, but only on the passenger side bracket. I had to ream the side holes of the bracket about 1/16" to get the screw in without tapping it and risking damaging the threads. It's not a

Replaced steering stabilizer

It was as advertised and the main reason I bought it was to control my F-350's tendency to wander when the front is properly aligned. It is black and comes without a dust cover. The diameter is much larger than the OEM and therefore almost touches the lever it is mounted on which can leave a wear mark on the cylinder, enough room. Once I had the right wrenches and a piece of cardboard to put it on, it was easy to replace. Firm but no hammers required. Advice if you do this don't bother with the

Good replacement for standard

Significantly improved handlebar feel on my old 02 F350! I changed the shocks, ball joints, tie rod ends, took the camber but it still had a tendency to wander. All of these vintage heavy-duties wandered through my experience, but mine was overdone. This damper has a larger diameter than the stock damper and has significantly reduced this deflection. The bushings don't flex as much from side to side. Aside from working with rusty fasteners, this wasn't a major problem. It might not be the first
