Review on πŸ”Œ Custom 4-Pin Trailer Wiring Harness for Toyota Avalon & RAV4 - CURT 56350 (Black) by Eric Schwalbe

Revainrating 4 out of 5

What has changed? It used to be easier.

Gone are the days when you just remove the taillight housing, slip it between the seat belts and you're done. Maybe that changed with Toyota or with recent changes in car wiring? I've had a bit of a plug and play issue in the past and didn't have to run a wire to the battery for power or drill a ground wire to the case - this is new to me. But all other brands seem to do the same thing (they all look the same but under a different name). So the ease of installation isn't as 5-star as many others I've done in the past. I was impressed by how well the panels attached to the Rav4's body and the straps were a little tighter than shown in the video. . The green wire was long enough to reach the passenger side. Be careful with the self tapping screw as it screws in quickly and can remove metal fairly quickly if not done slowly enough. The black/power cord was a pain. I fed it through the rubber grommet under the spare tire and then slid it forward so it wasn't very visible and rattling, and made sure it didn't get near the axle shaft or driveshaft. My son helped get the wire into the engine bay and again I took my time running and rewiring to make it look naughty; In the end, a foot of wire remained. All in all it took me a couple of hours to make it the way I wanted, but if I had to make it all over again it would take me about 30 minutes.
