Oh my god. I've lived long enough to use paper straws from the 50's to the time plastic straws came along. Then they did not absorb liquids, did not dissolve, became soft, but it took a long time. Maybe they were waxed - that's my guess. These paper straws are very pretty - the pastel colors are lovely and they are straws so they can be placed in a soda can or similar if you need to finish your drink quickly.
