Review on ESynic Digital Converter Optical Coaxial by Tone Hatton

Works well enough but the audio is upside down

I bought this DAC to use my XBox One's digital optical output with my speaker system with 3.5mm analogue inputs. Previously I tried to use Goronya Digital to Analog Audio Converter, Toslink Digital Coaxial and Optical Adapter to Analog Audio Converter - Converts digital coaxial or optical SPDIF to 3.5mm stereo jack or L/R RCA audio output, but found some audio effects in games made a noticeable clicking or clipping noise, which was very annoying. Two different devices had the same issue, so I believe it's just bad hardware. I then tried an Insignia black optical/coaxial DAC that I bought at a home theater store while trying to set everything up; This DAC didn't have any sound clipping, but as soon as it stopped receiving an optical signal ie when the XBox was powered off, it started making horrible pops and crackles from the speakers. Still not wanting to spend a lot of money on a DAC, I chose this model, also because of the USB power delivery, which I could disable on my USB hub. I'm happy to report that it has performed well in my tests so far with no clipping in the same sound effects as the other DAC, no crackling or popping even with the power on (I heard a faint buzzing/ticking ). alone shortly after switching off my console, but that's it. Much quieter and not for long compared to the Insignia DAC issue). The reason I knocked off the star is because the audio output is reversed from right to left. I have compared the received DAC to the photos of the product and confirmed that it is the same (red/white not swapped) but they are definitely upside down which is easily confirmed by the 'left and right speaker test' video. I hooked up the same speakers to my XBox 360 and PC and the problem was isolated from XBox One with this DAC. Swapping the cables fixed the problem. I will let you know if I have any problems with this device. I realize this is inexpensive and basic hardware, but the "high-end" DACs are significantly more expensive, and others in this price range don't always work properly, as I've outlined, which makes for a fun twist can AV setup. into a severe headache.
