Smell/taste of plastic

The product has a chemical smell which I don't like. Not sure if this is normal or not. I used the correct handling instructions and disinfected it. Until my child became interested in this particular teether. The reviews seem to be good so I was a bit surprised when I received the product. Looks good but not sure about the smell and quality of the product. Again, my baby doesn't seem attracted to this particular teether. Maybe because of the smell/taste.
