Review on SOLIOM S600: Advanced Home Security Camera with 360° Pan Tilt, Motion Detection, Solar Power, and Color Night Vision by Jeff Hill

Image comparison between S90 and S600

I have an S90 that I bought about 6 months ago that is monitoring our vacation home in the Pacific Northwest. The solar panel works perfectly, even under treetops the camera keeps a charge. I've had to turn off motion detection on the S90 to keep the batteries charged, as it's hanging from a tree that doesn't give it much (or any) direct sunlight - if it kept waking up to record videos, I worried that the panels weren't can keep it charged. When the S600 came out with the ability to charge it with SIX rechargeable batteries (it comes with 3, you can order extra batteries easily and cheaply from Revain) I jumped at it. The S600's solar panel is insanely large, and with six batteries, my camera should be able to handle even the longest gray days in the Pacific Northwest. The remote pan/tilt controls were a bonus! The S600 appears to have some sort of "image processing" that increases sharpness, which can be seen in the comparison photos. I hung them side by side to take some photos of apples to show how each camera compares. The cheaper S90 is still a great camera - I honestly prefer the softer image quality of the slightly revised S600. The apps on both are pretty easy to set up; Oddly enough, the two cameras use different apps, so you can't just combine them on the same system. If you want several, be sure to buy the same cameras. My cabin is in a very rural area with absolutely horrible internet, it has a 2mb limit so I turned off motion detection and used the camera as a sort of "hey wondering if the house burned down" type of on- Demand registration used. Both are great for that and now I can rotate the camera on the S600 to see more of my belongings (and my S90 is heading towards my friend's cabin). Both cameras record locally. So once you've enabled detection, you're essentially connecting to the camera remotely and being able to view the captured images stored on the memory card (the app crashes when you try to download a movie, which hopefully fixes it). Once you set up a camera, it's practically bulletproof; The software for the S90 (the "Soliom" app) seems to be a bit more sophisticated than the newer "Soliom+" app that the S600 runs on - I was able to use the camera with my wife's phone on the S90 with no problems but we can't get it to work on the S600 so this is either a pilot error or (hopefully) the software is still being updated and will work better in the future. For the carefree camera that doesn't have a monthly fee, both are great. The S600's solar panel is insane, and six 18650 batteries ensure it never runs out of power. The solar panel also performed very well on the smaller S90, even in indirect sunlight - even in winter, when there was very little direct sunlight, it often showed maybe 1/3 full charge for weeks. Both options are good. The S90 is easier to assemble - the S600 has the annoying disadvantage that the screw holes are right BEHIND the camera, so you can't get a drill or screwdriver past the 'head' unless you have an insanely long drill. . I attached this to the S600 by screwing it to the board and then screwing the board to the tree. Between them, the S90 is a lot easier to install (and a lot less noticeable when hovering).
