We bought an ION Audio Max LP turntable for our daughter's 15th birthday. Her sister has a black version of the same player and has been running it for 9 months now. I'm glad it now works as it should, but it hasn't come without a lot of frustration. hence the 3 star rating; Added 1 star for lack of information in the user manual on how to deal with a misaligned belt and added another star for not solving a common problem with a sheet in the product packaging suggesting belt problem notification due to delivery and there is none Information on whether to use a sliding shoe. The player would speed up, slow down and even stop in the middle of an LP song right out of the box. I've read the reviews and searched the internet for an answer as to what's going on. I ended up requesting a replacement through Revain. The second player acted even worse than the first. The same: speed up, slow down, stop and skip. Finally, I stumbled across the link provided on the ION website (had to remove it; Revain doesn't allow external links in product reviews. Just look for it or check ION's comments in other reviews. I think it gets in some of their answers on badly used reviews). Reviews. ANSWER: The belt has to be PERFECTLY straight or there will be problems. This is a simple solution that could be in a manual or a note in a box. Judging by the reviews, many others have experienced this problem and seem to have blamed it. on a defective player if they tip over during transportation OR are not properly installed. Once the tape was lined up AND a felt pad was used under the record, the problem was solved. Yes, this felt "slip" pad actually does more than just protect the player from dust when not in use. This gives the record some friction so it will NOT slip. The player works fine now. ION Audio please add this to the manual or package and save others from what I just went through to get it right. This is easy to fix once you know what to do.
