In preparation for this year's cruise and separate snorkeling vacation, I watched a number of YouTube videos to familiarize myself with the destinations. I've seen this fin (Avanti Super Channel) over and over again in the video. On a whim I bought a pair in red (to match my swimsuit of course). I was a bit wary when I first saw them as they seemed light and soft. Too flexible. I jumped in the pool this afternoon to give them a little test run. I crossed a large pool in twelve seconds! I've flown back and forth a few times just to feel the fins and let me tell you I'm blown away by them. I had absolutely no strain on my calves or ankles and like I said I just flew through the water. (And they look great, if that's important to you.) The positive: They're really light. They are quite long but still easily fit in my luggage. My Mares Volo Race fins are probably 4 inches longer. They are flexible enough (Super Channel) and soft for a REALLY light hit. They really helped me fly on the water. I am 6ft 2in and 235lbs. I almost don't look like a sea dog. But I moved in these fins! The fit was perfect. (I bought 11-12. I wear size 12 sturdy shoes and my feet are normal. Slightly wider.) You look great! The price was right. I paid about fifty bucks for mine (but knowing how good they are, I'd pay more if I had to.) They're negatively vivacious. (I don't want them to be buoyant!) Negatives: They have negative buoyancy (jumping overboard will drown them, but they sink slowly, allowing time for a quick grab). They were perfectly fitted and had no slack. If you wear size 13 shoes, 11-12 will only fit you if you have a very narrow foot. If you wear size 11 shoes you probably need neoprene socks.) I know it's not really a big deal but I felt the fit was like a Cinderella shoe for me. sail twenty minutes. This can be done with a simple pair of nylon dive socks.) Overall, they're amazing. On my next trip I'll take Mares Avanti Super Channel and Volo Race fins (since they are very light it's not a problem), Mares i3 Liquid Skin Mask (Sunrise style as I have a very wide face), Promate snorkel and A black inflatable snorkel vest (since tour operations seem to require that we wear one). Now it's just a matter of waiting for the cruise!
