A 2008 Acadia worked fine but sometimes had to turn the crank a lot to start. I heard the engine ticking, similar to a valve knocking due to a failed hydraulic compensator. In my case there were no codes. I put my finger on the purge solenoid valve with the engine running and felt a ticking sound coming from it. This part is located on the driver's side in the engine compartment. Something hidden behind the throttle body. The part was easy to replace. Two hoses, a cable connector and a screw. After the replacement, there is no more hard starting or ticking.
