Review on Casablanca 99019 Universal Control System by Gregory Robinson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good product and customer service

This thing is actually a bit more complicated than you might expect, although when plugged in and running it works fine and the four speeds are good. The remote is a bit small, only about 3-1/2" x 1-1/2" x 3/4" thick. The buttons are fairly flush with the face of the remote, so it's not as easy to use them to operate by touch as it could be firstly it's quite difficult to remove the back to access the battery until you figure it out as the instructions don't really explain how to attach it and hence not one of the plastic gears shatters holding the battery in. First a tiny Phillips screw needs to be removed, then a latch or pin on the side of the back panel next to the screw needs to be pushed back before the back panel can be pivoted up to release another latch below. Once you've done that things will be pretty easy, although you still feel like you're breaking something If you're just installing a fan, the pairing process is between the remote and the Casablanca fan a simple step and does not require setting the DIP switches in the two units that make up the remote unit or more of the same type, you must disconnect the electrical connection of a previously installed and paired fan before using this remote control pair with the fan you want it to control, otherwise pairing here will result in both (or more) fans being operated simultaneously from this remote. (This isn't covered in the installation guide.) Because the two identical fans and remotes I just installed were wired to the same circuit, and I couldn't just flip the switch to electrically shut off the first fan, I had to unplug the power cord from the disconnecting the first fan in its canopy after pairing it with my own remote to allow the second remote to pair with the second fan. Once the second fan and remote control are paired, the first fan can be reconnected and its cover closed. I learned this the hard way (having actually considered it a possible problem but doing nothing - yes, I'm confused now) when I installed two identical fans and remote controls in adjoining bedrooms, which was an easy fix, but time consuming 12 - Repeated process to restore the first fan on your own remote control. I figured being close to the second one would be enough to avoid accidentally pairing with both fans, which obviously didn't work. However, I have to say that the customer service in Casablanca helped me a lot to fix my mistake and the person on the other end was very patient and polite. Switch.
