Review on BAFX Products IR Remote Control Extender | IR Repeater Kit - Control up to 8 Devices (Expandable to 12) by Rovy Oppeneer

Good Expandable IR Repeater

I used to use Snap A/V gear at work (A/V integration company) but it was cheaper than our cost for those gears. I have expanded this unit from my media stand to three TVs after purchasing 2 additional IR eyes and expanding them with the BAFX Cat-5 extension kit. This added about $42 to the cost of the $27 device, but I was able to save half the additional cost by cutting the IR eye cables and extending them over Cat-5 with Dolphin connectors. I prefer a clean look. I only have a Blu-ray player and a Denon receiver on this repeater, both work as expected. The only thing to note is that a steady (probably intentionally very bright) blue light on the main unit means there is an input fault, in my case one of the wire pairs on my Cat 5 extension cord is shorted. I had to replace the RJ-45 tip on a TV to restore functionality. Included a photo of the main unit (just my 2 in, 1 out installed) and one of the IR repeaters on the Blu-ray player via the IR receiver.

Pros
  • ASSEMBLY - Build your dream AV system with our IR Repeater Kit. Our kit allows you to place any device with IR control out of the remote's field of view and still control it. Put your cable box, DVD player, and Roku in a closet out of sight, close the door, and you STILL can use the remote.
Cons
  • Very expensive
