Tried several tailgate covers, Yakima, Race Face T2, Thule Gatemate Pro and EVOC. Neither of them are perfect, but I think the EVOC was the best of all for my Honda Ridgeline, which has a thicker tailgate than most mid-size trucks. First things first I say, whichever you choose, be prepared to buckle up your bikes, don't just rely on velcro on your down tube to secure your bikes, if you do they will most likely fall over. Yakima: Nice soft padding, terrible Velcro. The straps are built in so you can't replace them if they ever fail and the velcro doesn't feel as strong. Thule: I didn't like that. Has nice soft padding and removable velcro straps but they are HUGE and will never secure regular bike downtubes. Also, the entire pad is huge and the Ridgeline tailgate won't close with it. Raceface T2: Probably the best quality of all, but they really messed up and ended up as a small, barely protected rear tailgate. brought me to EVOC. Nothing fancy, just the right size, good detachable velcro straps and I love the unique metal hook system to attach it to the tailgate. Just be careful not to hit the metal hooks on your truck!
