Small turntable with big impact!

I've been watching them since Record Store Day earlier this year and finally bought one and I love it. My local record store sometimes stocks them and the records seem to be in high demand. I've collected about a dozen items so far, and according to my local store, many more are in the pipeline. The Thirdman release starring Jack White is my favorite. The player itself does not come with vinyl discs. I think they did one with the Foo Fighters album on Record Store Day but it seems to have sold out. Mine arrived quickly and in perfect condition. About two minutes after unpacking it started playing for me. It runs on 4AA batteries, but can also be plugged into almost anything via mini-USB to power it. I started it from my laptop at work and showed it to friends and colleagues. That's funny, he's ridiculously small. Even tiny. It only plays 3" records but is built to be a serious turntable. It's clear they aimed for the look and feel of the Technics 1200, and they succeeded. I never realized it until I bought it, but it has an Audio-Technica pickup that usually costs fifteen to twenty dollars. It's belt driven and has a tilt adjustment plus or minus about 15% or so. Everything is completely manual, but I can't imagine building an automatic hand of this size. It came with the cables I needed to connect it to my portable speaker and home system, and an Aux or RCA input. When you listen to these recordings through the tiny built-in speaker, you can't really hear anything, and it sounds like a toy. When you connect it to your home system or a high-quality speaker, it lights up. I literally had people listening in amazement. It's vinyl and it sounds like vinyl. My only complaint is that the motor should be quieter as there is a slight hum when switched on. I can't hear it through the amp or speakers, but it's there. The player will pleasantly surprise you if you connect it to a decent system. If you're looking for an audiophile experience, this isn't it. But it's fun, cool and not expensive. I have an Epitaph Records release with Interrupters and Rancid and they sound really fantastic. I've heard the songs are limited to about three minutes and they're all one sided as far as I can tell. I hope they stick around for a while as the discs are great for collecting and all come with a poster or artwork by the artist. I keep my Mini next to my Technics box at home and it's fun to show off. I would buy it again and will probably give a few for Christmas this year.
