When I received my Bialetti 6-cup kettle, it smelled extremely strongly of chemicals. I believe the chemical smell comes from the manufacturing processes, but that should be addressed before selling to consumers. The instructions say you have to clean it and craft a few coffee pots, which are then discarded before brewing the coffee pot you're going to drink. I did this and the chemical taste/smell didn't go away. I really wanted this product to work for me so I did a little research online and found that if you clean the pot in the vinegar solution and then leave it in the vinegar solution for 30 minutes the smell goes away. I tried that and it worked. The vinegar solution removed all the odor from the metal parts, but the rubber seal still had a strong chemical odor. Again, I really wanted this to work for me, so I bought a new rubber grommet. I was relieved when I got a new pad and it didn't smell of anything. Now I was free to make my own coffee. Pot after pot yielded the same burnt coffee taste. I've tried pre-boiling the water so the pot doesn't sit on the stovetop for so long, varying roughness of the bottom, wetting of the bottom, lower stovetop temps, higher stovetop temps. Anyway, every pot is burned. Totally dissatisfied with this product.
