This A-frame kitten house has proven to be a great buy. There's a group of feral kittens that I've grown very fond of. We live in a townhouse and I have been feeding this group for several years. Our last winter was fairly mild, but winter seems to be getting harsher on the horizon. I chose the A frame as it looked like it would fit at least a 2-3. Very spacious inside! I opted for an unheated house, also because there is no way out and because the site is not particularly protected from the weather - there is only a small canopy from the roof of the townhouse. Reviews seemed to indicate that most people were happy with it and that it could withstand exposure. I bought a self-warming crate pad and weatherproofed the house with a harsh waterproofing spray, hoping it would weatherproof and keep the kittens dry and extend the life of the house. At the recommendation of another reviewer, I put the house on a brick lot. The house was finished and I put it out before a heavy downpour. The kittens are here! I looked out later as it started to rain and the three of us were comfortably seated inside! The spray seems to be doing its job - it was dry inside after the 3 showers we had and water droplets dripped right off. They seem to love it! The soft brown color merges - it is almost invisible against the background of the brick facade of the house. (I'm not trying to include HOA :/) The temp dropped to 20 last night. I'm ordering a beveled edge fleece bed to maybe offer more warmth and reproduction until I try the doors. I haven't worn them yet so don't scare me. A self-warming pillow in a cozy fleece bed should help! I also ordered this heating disc which is heated in the microwave and is said to last 10 hours. I'll try it when the temperature drops, see if they like it. All in all the kittens seem to like it a lot which in turn makes me love it! It's well made, spacious, very pretty looking and provides a home for these kitties that I've grown to love. I truly believe spray for outdoor gear has made a huge difference. It wasn't expensive and I did the whole house inside and out before assembling it (which was easy btw!) and lifting it off the ground. My only complaint is that the areas between the velcro where the walls come together have small gaps. I can attach an extra velcro. Also, it's a great solution for providing some shelter for my wild friends and has probably cemented my reputation as a hooded cat lady. Not that 6 cats running to greet me every night didn't already ;)
