I'm someone who tight laces in heavy duty corsetry, routinely lacing down as much as 5" from my natural waist size. I'm big in the shoulders and bust, and narrow through the hips and bottom. My measurements at the time of these photos are.Bust: 37.5" (32DDD)Under bust: 29"Waist: 26"High hip: 32"I bought the size medium, and have it laced completely closed in the photos. It is not too tight, and an average person similar to my measurements should have no difficulty getting into this size. If you want this to provide some squeeze and you are shaped similarly to me, you should order a small. I intend to wear this over a shirt, so I wanted extra room. With a shirt under, I can lace this down to about a one inch gap with ease.I will say that ladies with a larger bust-to-waist ratio should consider carefully whether this meets their needs for the look they want. Given the way I'm shaped, I found that I am stretching the straps (which have elastic in the back) a LOT. I have to do that because I need to pull the bust downwards in order to accommodate my breasts. Nevertheless, it pushes them up pretty far and I still get some breast tissue pushing towards the arm pits.I tried loosening the laces at the top, but it made the waist sit kind of funny. It's possible to do, but I prefer it as pictured.The construction of this unit is really nice for the price. It's not going to hold up to tight lacing, but you can get a little bit of cinch going on, and the boning does create a smoothing effect. The hip gores flare out a LOT on me, and that's exactly what I wanted, as I intend to pair it with a really poufy skirt.The zipper is very difficult to manipulate, and in order to extend its life, I intend to use the laces to get in and out of this. One star taken off for that. Otherwise, this is an excellent budget buy and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
