Finally found an inexpensive heating cable
Updated 4/10/19 For those wondering, my chick waterer survived two winters. I would suggest tighter windings and/or more insulation if making a similar irrigation unit as this configuration will freeze below 0C for prolonged periods of time. The heating cable continues to function. See original review below. Used this to make a frost resistant waterer for my chicken coop. Wrapped this around 4" PVC and then insulated the Reflectix BP48010 with 48" and 10 feet of bubble wrap. I then used masking tape to finish it off. We live in Minnesota and this setup survived a winter with no issues!
