Review on πŸ’Ž Diamond XtremeSound PCI 7.1 Channels 16 bit Sound Card - Premium Audio Experience for Your PC by James Arellano

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Inexpensive solution

First of all many thanks to RL Frank for his insightful and extremely helpful review. Without his/her information about the required driver for Windows 7 I would have given up on this board. The board arrived quickly (as usual with Revain) and is physically easy to install. Diamond's included information is almost useless, but if you're installing your own system cards and tweaking your BIOS settings, I have to believe you really don't have to do much hand-holding. As others have said, there are no drivers for Windows 7 on Diamond's website, but you can just follow RL Franks' instructions OR let Windows 7 guide you. I downloaded the RC driver from the C Media site before receiving the board and installed from that download, but when I booted the computer for the first time after physically installing the board, Windows 7 tried to get the drivers out to install from the built-in library and found nothing about it. Card, quickly found the driver on the C Media website and posted instructions on how to get the correct driver, including a website to get the necessary decompressor. That was impressive! The board itself works very well and has a great sound. Good board for the price. I only gave it 4 stars because the Diamond lags so far behind the driver curve that it forces customers to jump through extra hoops. Bad customer support.

Pros
  • High marks for tester support and durability
Cons
  • I vaguely remember
