I use these for my children's play area as an alternative to the brightly colored play mats, since we are in a small home and the play area is in the living room. They blend in nicely with our wood floors and provide a safe and comfortable area for them to play. The 10'x10' is a good amount to start with. My only complaint is that the "wood grain" on the edge pieces doesn't sync up that well when you put a bunch of pieces together (i.e. some edge pieces will have a vertical grain attached to a horizontal grain). I also had to trim a few of the edge pieces to enclose a larger (2x3 square) space.
