Every year I burn thousands of DVDs at home. I use a regular 7 to 1 DVD copier and a Primera Bravo II printer. I've been using Philips for about three years now. It's a solid product, but at nearly $35 for the 100, the current $20 price point would be a significant savings for the Smartbuy brand. Downside for such a significant price difference. I rated them on three different parameters; Writability, inkjet results and readability.WritabilityPerfect. 100 out of 100. No noticeable difference between the two brands. I usually get 3-5 rejections from Philips, but I've also had a lot of stacks that have turned out to be perfect. Again, I use a regular 7-to-1 DVD copier. Inkjet Results There was a slight difference here. The surface is a bit shinier than Philips. I print Philips with 40% ink saturation, but for Smartbuys I had to increase it to 50%. For me, that means a 25% increase in ink usage. This wasn't a problem for me as the discount on the discs more than makes up for the amount of extra ink needed. Readability I try 15 discs out of 100 with no noticeable difference between the two brands. The reading times were comparable. Overall I prefer the matte finish from Philips and the Smartbuys have a tiny, almost invisible factory 'BI' mark on the front, but it's barely noticeable. None of these factors have reduced Smartbuys to the extent that that I could continue to use Philips. I cross. If later I experience something unusual, and for Smartbuys I had to increase it to 50%.
