I was happy to get a desk easel that I can take to class and also use when painting. I needed another look at the photo to see how she is standing and how she will be holding the drawing. The plastic handles on the bottom are just clips that slide down. They work and will hold the paper if you have a pad behind them, but the thing is they tilt up to hold and in the photo they look flat so they get in the way of you underneath. For the money it works, but I'd happily spend a little more and get something flat on the bottom and possibly wood. It holds the material well
