Review on πŸ‘Ÿ Merrell Encore Bypass Slip-On Shoe in Black by John Talcott

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Not breathable, mesh does not penetrate shoes

Item: --- Comfortable fit, well stitched (oh those Merrells) --- Breathing slightly better than shoes with full leather uppers Counterargument : Description "Mesh" implies the mesh is continuous to the inside of the shoe, but it is not. It could be good but --- the inner lining of the shoe doesn't breathe well. Bottom line:---great shoes for summer in the Upper Catskills, avoid if you live south of Pennsylvania and if you live south of Virginia there's a good chance nothing will help you stay cool outside anyway. ------- If you live in a place where the temperature regularly exceeds 85 degrees Fahrenheit, don't buy it. The "mesh" upper is mostly aesthetic and rests on a solid layer of fabric. I understand the description says fabric lining. However, if the lining is primarily an insulator and doesn't really 'breathe' well (as advertised) then the mesh is of little to no value. held back by a layer of fabric as long as it breathes well, right? So I did a little experiment comparing the Merrells to my (charcoal) running shoes in terms of how well they stay cool. To ensure reasonable control, I stood outside in direct sunlight with both pairs of shoes on for 3 minutes before getting into my (already cool) car to check it out. As I put my feet in the merrels and then under the air conditioner in my car, it took me 3 minutes before I could even begin to feel any chills below. I did the same experiment with my running shoes and after 30 seconds I felt cool on my toes.
