Review on Personal Silver Money Saving Machine by Matthew Evans

Better than just a counting piggy bank!

I bought this for my teenager even though it's a toy vending machine. The reason for this is that she is too young to have her own bank account, but she needed a bank that was better than just a money counting bank (which she was currently using to save money). The fact that you can set a target amount is a great incentive to save money. The automatic banknote roller makes you feel "grown up", which is also an incentive to use it. This is also a working calendar (shows the date, day and time) and an alarm clock too! There are a few negatives I have to comment on: 1) No on/off toggle so always on which drains the batteries; 2) the storage compartment door is weak; 3) There is no volume control - either the sound is on or the sound is off. there is no intermediate value. We found a quick fix to mute the sound a bit to make it quieter. We took a piece of electrical tape (which is thicker than, say, duct tape) and just covered the speaker that the noise is coming from. I have shown this in a photo (the tape we used was green). The only thing to keep in mind is that when inserting a large number of banknotes; one at a time, the reel mechanism can slow down even with brand new batteries, and keeping the bills bundled in the storage space can prevent the reel from pulling in more bills. All in all my 13 year old loves it and it's exactly what she was looking for! Now if this was bought purely as a toy for younger children I'm not sure how it will hold up over long periods of play, especially this storage door. But for a teen or young teen like mine who wants to save money in a more adult way, this is great!
