Great tape with a latch (or no)

I've just started a new framing project for my house and based on the reviews I decided to purchase this tape. My old cassette was Stanley. Not a bad tape, but it did have some annoying qualities and was badly beaten up. So I picked this one up and took it to work. The first thing I noticed was that it feels good in the hand. I have big hands and this tape feels durable. Second, I removed the stand, I stretched the strap 6 feet before it came loose and flexed. Good. On top of that, the numbers are nice and big, it's lettered on both sides, and even the latch has an extra tab at the top to hook it with your foot or whatever you need to. It's a great band and I'm really happy with everything but one thing. The main latch does not protrude beyond the rubber bumpers on the bottom of the box. Interestingly, there is a circular groove that is clearly designed for the tubes that the latch goes into. So if you are measuring a pipe you can just put tape on one end and pull it out. No problem. I've used it several times to measure some PVC and it worked great. But on hairpins and other boards you can't just mount it on the board and pull, I held tape on the end and pulled but the latch doesn't extend far enough beyond the box to hook the board so I just pull the box with the board, no pulling out the tape. If you work fast, it quickly becomes annoying. After a while I got used to using my thumb to push the tape out a bit so I could hook it to the board, but I miss how my old tapes hooked just by putting them on the board. board and draw. It may be that I was unlucky and just got a rotten egg. None of the other reviewers seem to have this problem. However, when you've been working with wood for 15 years and have developed certain habits, it's frustrating to switch to new hardware, especially with a tool as commonly used as duct tape. It got to the point where I didn't even think about it anymore, so the small change was pretty significant. When I get into HVAC I think a magnet will be really useful. For general contractors I definitely recommend . If you have been into woodworking for a long time, you may be a little disappointed with the catch, I guess it depends on how you work. Overall, the pros outweigh the cons and I still really like this band.
