Review on πŸ“€ Samsung DVD-E360 DVD Player: Sleek and Reliable in Black by Adam Browning

GREAT DVD PLAYER!

I am dismayed to hear comments from people complaining that they cannot enjoy DVDs made for other regions if they just have to buy a different DVD player . I think the Samsung E360 DVD player is under $55 (shipping included) and is the best! It works with standard US television (NTSC); You no longer have to spend hundreds of dollars on a multi-system TV unless he wants to watch a different standard TV signal (PAL in Europe, MESCAM in the Middle East, SESCAM in Asia, etc.). I've been a big fan of British programs for many years. Often these programs are only available in Region 2 format. Some UK programs are available in Region 1 format but at a significantly higher price than the Region 2 originals. I bought an E360 a few weeks ago, just plugged it in and it worked great. Then I decided I wanted two more for my other TVs. I ordered again from the voltage converter shop via Revain. This time, they replaced it with the E360K without notice. Without opening the individual box, I sent an email informing the store of their error and asking them to send the models I ordered immediately (because the technicians had to install new TVs and cable boxes a few days later. I am an elderly person, disabled and can't install these machines all by myself.I didn't want to pay a second visit.) The store only replied that the E360K is all regions, supposedly a newer model and there is a possibility for karaoke. (Not all of us aspire to be artists, even in the privacy of our own homes.) As the store assured me these were all regions, I opened up an E360K and attempted to plug it in in place of my existing E360 as a test. Error: The image was grainy, black and white, and the wrong size. I emailed the store again asking them to ship the E360s I ordered immediately. They responded very briefly, to the point of rudeness, that the E360K needed to be "converted to NTSC". But they forgot to explain how to do it. Manual; which covers the E350, E360 and E360K models; turned out to be useless. It says that the remote control (each model has its own remote control) has various buttons (menus, tools, etc.) and that there are many different (basic) options for setting, display, sound etc., but not individual ones in the manual List (sub)options or describe what they do. I'm not a techie and I don't want to waste my time pushing buttons or changing default settings just to see what happens. Once again I struggled to connect the E360K. Coincidentally, my very first attempt was successful: after you insert a region 2 DVD, and from the home screen, use the directional arrows on your remote to navigate to the settings icon (far right that looks like a gear) and press enter. The screen will then show a list of items on the left, select (again with the 'Enter' key) the top item: 'Display'. From the sub-list on the right side of the screen, use the directional arrows to navigate down from Auto to NTSC TV and press Enter. (I assume this is because I hooked up the DVD player to a standard American NTSC television.) Then the Region 2 DVD clearly reproduced the color image at the correct size. The E360 is fitted with a standard US plug (two flat pins). The E360K comes with a continental plug (two round pins), but a US adapter is included. The combination of these two factors makes the E360K longer than 3 inches instead of 2 inches for the E360. This poses a problem if someone wants to use an extension cord on a narrow shelf (like me) or if someone is concerned about how far the wires are sticking out of the outlet. As already mentioned in other reviews, the remote control is quite compact and the individual buttons are correspondingly small. I play around with it often; But I wouldn't buy another DVD player just because of the remote control. A tray slides out of the front of the box to insert or remove a DVD. I prefer to just put the DVD in the slot; Visions of the bending or breaking of the tray come to mind. As I said, the operating instructions leave a lot to be desired; it should provide much more information about the various settings. As with most tutorials, a certain level of understanding is assumed. I wish they had definitions of terms, lots of screenshots, and always information on how to get back to the main menu (select "login" again or just wait). Manual in English, French and other languages. appears to be Arabic. My relationship with the voltage converter shop was disappointing but I received the machines in perfect condition and right at the beginning of their delivery time. I really would rather have all the E360s. But due to lack of time and to avoid doing further business with this store I decided to keep two E360K. Samsung's reputation as the best is well deserved. I'm amazed by the picture quality of this DVD player and that's what counts in the end.
