Downgraded one star for lack of instructions. I would highly recommend this socket, so get a pair if you're shopping. One if you connect it wrong and the second for a spare. Mine came with no instructions so I can't help. The reviews here are correct, but like everything I've found, this helped me. I know enough about electricity to hurt myself. On the first try to connect it, the bottom light came on on the first turn, the bottom light came on on the second turn, nothing on the third turn, the fourth went out. When turned on, the light flickered a little. After a little research I found my problem. The wire has a smooth side and a ribbed side. Who would know? My old lamp was connected with a white-brown wire. White is used to connect to the wall, brown comes from the bottom night light. Here's what worked for me. Plain White Wire to Brass Screw, Ribbed White Wire to Silver/Nickel Screw. The lower brown smooth wire also attaches to the silver-nickel screw, which now consists of a white wire and a brown wire. Last brown rib wire on black screw. Hi! works perfectly. The first time you turn on the bottom light is on, the second time you turn on the top light, the third time you turn on the top and the bottom light the fourth turns off. Hope this can help someone with the same problems.
