In times of COVID. This is how the story begins. Let's set it up. Combine the elements of work from home, premium quiet, affordable indoor spaces, and great weather, and you have a situation where an indoor patio is not only perfect for your daily work schedule, it becomes GREAT! The only problem is that the Wi-Fi is at the other end of the property, with a bulkhead of solid construction in between, as well as a steep wall and other sources of interference. I've missed Zoom meetings, received late messages, had a solid 4-5 second speech lag, and my phone didn't alert me to anything. At that moment I thought maybe the router just wasn't strong enough. It's only about 40 feet, but still. So I took a chance on getting an inexpensive and feature-rich (this) version of the Wi-Fi extender and now I'm banging my head. No drops, no lags, full speed even over a VPN connection. I wasn't sure if this would solve my speed issues since the underlying connection isn't very fast, but it absolutely worked. I have to make one small restriction. the word "extension" can be misleading. The expander acts like a relay. So, to connect to your home network through a repeater, you actually need to connect to the repeater. If you tend to move around your home/property/office and need the strongest connection available, you may need to switch back and forth manually based on what is relative to the particular location you are in a wireless router is strongest or extension. That was fine for my purposes as my work computer stayed in place. I only had to switch Wi-Fi networks on my phone while working at this location.
