Review on Surebonder 5540HOL Light Tacker by Will Ridpath

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Nice idea but not strong enough to put a clamp in a tree.

I bought this item to install C9 lightbulbs outside of my house. I was looking for something that would hold the wires securely while minimizing the chance of them getting punctured. I've read the reviews and looked at the pictures for this stapler and haven't seen anything about the C9 headlights. I was skeptical but decided to give it a try. The short summary is that it didn't work. I can't imagine staples made from this material going through anything harder than drywall, and possibly even then. There wasn't a single staple (out of about 20) that worked the first time. I had to hammer the ones that were really stuck to the wall and then they basically just flexed sideways and barely penetrated. The insulators are semicircular on one side and flat on the other. I have tried both sides to no avail. After giving it up I went back to my regular stapler and got the job done quickly. If you are looking for a stapler that works with cords, I advise you not to buy this one. This construction stapler just can't do it's job. The problem was not with the C9 cable. The staples didn't even go through my siding, although there was plenty of room between the tip of the staple and the wire.
