I've had this doorbell for almost 2 months and my dog JUST learned how to use it. She pressed the button almost every time on command, but she just didn't realize she had to press it herself. A few days ago she suddenly pressed the external button herself, we praised her, and since then she has used it every time she wanted to enter. I'm glad we didn't let her down, we just have to get her to use the internal one to get her release. I took off a star because originally we had the handset opposite the door and the outside button only worked 50% of the time making it difficult to learn. We plugged the receiver into an outlet just outside the door and it made a world of difference. So it is imperative that you have an outlet near the transmitters. I also find that there are too many sound options. I just chose a simple ringtone. The rest was a bit uncomfortable. But I like having options.
