Review on πŸ‘† ELECROW 7-inch Raspberry Display with 1024x600 Resolution, Touchscreen, Portable, HDMI and HD Support (Product Code: 6453681) by David Jefferson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Nice touch display for Raspberry Pi, but not enough power!

I like the crisp display on this screen and the fact that it doesn't vampire my Rasperry Pi 3's GPI0 outputs. The reason I downgraded 2 stars is because I had trouble viewing the output on a clean install of Raspbian Getting stretch out of the box and it draws a lot of power from USB with no way to power it any other way. I first had to edit the config.txt on my desktop computer to force the HDMI output to connect and display the image on this screen. Just uncomment hdmi_force_hotplug=1. Then I had to update the system to get the full resolution and touchscreen to make it work without installing drivers and editing configuration files. I wish there was a stylus included as it can sometimes be difficult to be precise on such a small high-resolution screen. One of the brass bolts was unthreaded, which doesn't help. Now I need to print the body for it as it looks quite fragile. I have one more question for the manufacturer: why are there 2 micro USB touch inputs and no separate external power input? Pros: Good resolution Sharp image Good viewing angles Fairly responsive touch input No drivers required Cons: Difficulty getting ready-to-use output from a fresh install of the official Raspbian stretch documentation and drivers on CD would require a quick paper install and boot Storage space sufficient Be welcome. Power intensive, will not work with Octopi and 3D printer as low voltage is reported, serial connection will not be established. USB connection releases GPI0 Well documented on CD Fair Price Edit June 21, 2019: After playing around with this screen for a while I decided to find a productive use for it and use it as a touch screen for my 3D printer. It never worked because it was drawing too much power from USB and when I plugged it into external power the touchscreen stopped working. I've tried many USB power supplies, even 8A and still low voltage is reported.
