My wife works as a librarian and of course she loves books! She literally spends hours each week reading, sitting in her comfortable armchair with a Victorian-style floor lamp providing the necessary lighting. Since his reading lamp is on very often, it made sense to replace the existing three-circuit light bulb with a three-circuit LED lamp. After much research I settled on the Philips 459164 3-way lightbulb which should have the equivalent brightness of a 40/60/100W incandescent bulb. in our case a problem because the lampshade of the floor lamp had a lot of extra space. Second, the LED is significantly heavier than the incandescent bulb it replaced. Unfortunately, the socket of her floor lamp resisted the extra weight and began to flicker quietly. Swapped the outlet and the problem went away. I can't fault the bulb as the base was decidedly marginal from the start and the added weight of the LED bulb was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. The Philips 3-way lamp has a color very close to that of an incandescent lamp - sort of a soft, warm amber-white that isn't as harsh as some other LED lamps that are closer to bright white or daylight. The light output is evenly distributed from above and below, unlike some of the LEDs we've bought which emit light mainly in a hemispherical shape. Finally, this 3-way LED bulb is just as bright as the 40/60/100W incandescent bulb it replaced. Good product Philips!
