Using Hard Drives as External USB Drives

I have a lot of data that I need to backup to my main computer and laptop in case of an emergency. I also had to move data between my laptop and the main computer. I was considering buying one of those external USB drives (WD My Passport) until I looked at my desk and saw that I had a bunch of blank internal hard drives laying around. All disks I have stacked are old PATA. (IDE) hard drives. I was wondering if there is anything on the market that would allow me to use internal hard drives in external USB drives. I did quite a bit of research on this topic and finally came across this product. When I got it in the mail I took the first hard drive which is a Maxtor 40GB PATA hard drive. You must first connect the power to the hard drive and turn on the power switch before connecting the USB to the computer, otherwise it will not appear. After turning it on and plugging it into my computer, it showed up in My Computer. I transferred about 20GB of files (software, videos and documents). I was blown away by the speed. I usually use a USB drive to transfer files and typically get transfer speeds of around 4-6MB/s (using TeraCopy). At the same time, I got a transfer rate of 26 MB/s. I then prepared my 250GB Seagate 7800RPM Barracuda drive. It didn't show up at first, so I went into disk management, formatted the drive, gave it a letter and it showed up in My Computer. Again, I was very pleased with how quickly files were transferred. In general, I just want the power adapter and the cable with the plug to be one unit. Also, I use this amazing device to turn my old hard drives into backup and external drives.
