Using Hard Drives as External USB Drives

I have a lot of data that I need to backup to my main computer and laptop in case of an emergency. I also had to move data between my laptop and the main computer. I was considering buying one of those external USB drives (WD My Passport) until I looked at my desk and saw that I had a bunch of blank internal hard drives laying around. All disks I have stacked are old PATA. (IDE) hard drives. I was wondering if there is anything on the market that would allow me to use internal hard drives in…

Lifeline to extract files from very old hard drives

I have several old (1990's) hard drives that I needed to check to see if there are any files I could extract. This product doesn't seem to be the most durable as you have to feed the pins into the adapter and make sure all the pins line up to work. You just need to make sure they line up before inserting the adapter into the pins to avoid damaging them. It's easy to use once you've tried it. I was able to recover old documents and photos that I thought were lost forever. I recommend this device

Works as described and as expected

Upon receipt of the box and its components, including (i) CD with drivers (Note * This is a custom size mini disk) ; (ii) country adapter with fuse for power supply; (iii) country adapters; (iv) eSata Cable, (v) Power Adapter for each of the 3 options provided - SATA and both IDE. Works great when used correctly. Please note that after installing the driver, turn off the computer completely; Then connect the hard drive you want to access to the StarTech device. then turn on your computer. When…

Just what I needed

My mother's laptop broke and caught fire so she had to buy a new one. Her old computer had a few pictures and files she wanted to save, but the laptop wouldn't even boot up. I took her laptop to several local chain computer stores and was told it would cost around $100 to remove the files from her old laptop. She wasn't exactly sure what files were there or what she needed to store, so we didn't know if it was worth figuring out if she needed things or not. I noticed that stores use this…

I bought this to copy data from an old IDE hard drive to my laptop. For this use case it worked great. While I have no doubt that it works well with SATA drives as well, I haven't tried it for this purpose. If customers are having trouble with this product, I recommend the following steps. These recommendations are based on the difficulties I've sometimes encountered when using an older universal IDE/SATA USB adapter: 1) Unplug everything 2) Plug the adapter into the SATA or IDE port on the…
