Review on πŸ”§ Enhanced Metal Bracket Design for APDTY 80711 Rear Hatch Liftgate Latch Handle by Joey Richardson

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Poorly made but good for parts

The product was truly a POS worthy of one star. The metal frame was poorly finished, so the axis of rotation was twisted and the grip was not smooth. Upon installation it was found that the frame had been modified so that the two mounting holes did not line up with the sunroof panel to which it bolts. After some straightening with pliers and a vise I was able to fit it, but the threaded studs that attach to the car were also misaligned so the handle didn't sit flush with the car. Basically it worked for a couple of weeks until the spring hinge shaft broke completely - the sunroof stuck again! On the plus side, the handle on this device was actually a beautiful piece of die-cast aluminum, as opposed to the factory plastic part that breaks down over time. I removed the pin from the dead stock and just swapped out the handle, still leaving the stock frame in order. To do this I had to rebore the new grip with a 1/16" bit as the factory axle was larger than this replacement part. 10 minutes of operation, fits great and works like new.

Pros
  • Improved metal bracket with plastic handle (for plastic see APDTY-134092)
Cons
  • Obsolete model
