Review on ๐Ÿ”— Black Herm Sprenger Ultra Plus Prong Collar - Center-Plate & Assembly Chain (4 mm, 25 inches) by Angela Lott

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I never thought I would be good at walking my Great Dane

I have a 120 lb Great Dane who is 1.5 years old and is very stubborn and stubborn. Walking her has always been an effort of will, despite training and different leashes, collars and harnesses. She often strangled herself with any collar, which could cause dangerous injuries to the trachea, but with a harness she only did what she tumbled and pulled. The collar was not an unacceptable option for me as I have used it on huskies in the past and know from experience not to trust it as the only connection to your dog (you can't make it tight enough that you don't take a risk it slides off and the dog can almost always shrug its snout off, especially if it decides to back up quickly) and also my Great Dane doesn't have a snout which makes this really an option. I knew I had to try the collar on her at some point. Most collars are just chrome plated and if you look closely at the part where you attach the leash you will see thin metal that looks like it could break. The chrome wears out over time and I also don't like the look of it as the chrome collar can be seen from a mile away (and so many people think they're "evil"). Herm Sprenger was the answer. a black stainless steel collar that has grown to 24 inches. Well, to work properly, the collar needs to sit HIGH on your dog's neck, and if it fits over your head to put on, it's probably too big. I was very concerned that 24 inches would be too small for my tall girl, but sizing her right in this collar actually required 1 or 2 links to be removed due to her loose skin. Since this collar is very well made, it is easy to put on and take off, and also open the link to put on and take off. Also the chain that allows this collar to actually slide and tighten around the neck is well made which ultimately allows it to slide smoothly and work well. With this collar I can finally walk my dog with reasonable control. That has never been possible. She can still react and completely ignore this collar, but without the overwhelming stimulus she now applies very little pressure on the leash where before she had to struggle for strength throughout the walk. However, if she overdoes it and this collar is tightened to prevent her from falling out, it will NOT cause an injury and will help her recover faster. With this collar I can now move forward. Cheap collars can be 1/3-1/2 the price but the quality is worth it.
