Many casual shoes seem comfortable for people with wider feet. Mine are long and narrow (9 1/2 AAA) and these shoes are snug and comfortable at my "right" size. (A lot of shoes don't even go 9 1/2, they go straight from 9 to 10, so half a size is another big boon.) Although I wouldn't wear these shoes for running or any other exercise. I wanted more arch support, they are perfect for walking and skipping. Socks are optional but if I wear them without socks it can be a bit uncomfortable rubbing the bottom of the heel so I think socks are preferable. All in all, an attractive shoe for everyday summer wear.
