Bought for teenage daughter who collects paperbacks; politely declined the updated Kindle. The box arrived quickly but weighed at least 70 pounds. Unpacked on the porch and laid out all the items in the room to display. Approximately (8) total hex head screws plus included hex wrench and (2) black machine screws of various sizes; but there are about (70 screws). Buyer only requires (1) medium Phillips screwdriver for assembly; We used a cordless screwdriver, which speeded up the process considerably. It took us about 40 minutes to unbox, tag and assemble. We decided to do both at the same time, which saves time. We think the use of modular steel frames made them a great purchase. The frames won't warp with moisture and are very strong, each of the (4) shelves per stand holds 30 pounds or about 120 pounds per stand. All parts were marked with simple stickers like "A" or "G". After assembly, use a clean cotton cloth and some polish for final cleaning. One day I stood back and, with my daughter's approval, looked at the stands; I was very pleased. They surprise with their final appearance; reminiscent of ladders for library shelves. There is plenty of space between the shelves for various items such as paintings or other exhibits. Make sure heavier items are on the bottom in areas with small children or playful pets. Overall assembly is very simple - you only need to attach the front and back edges of each shelf with (2) screws; but there are 4 shelves each, or eight shelves in total. So if you need to attach 2 "lips" to each of the (8) shelves, start with about 24 pieces of MDF-style wood and 48 screws; so it takes a while. With the help of a screwdriver and two people, everything went pretty quickly. Then you simply clamp each of the 4 shelves to the post between the supporting structure/steel cast sides with 2 screws on each side of each shelf. I knew perfectly well that I would have to wait until they were fully assembled to finally lightly tighten the screws. If you're using a cordless screwdriver, take it easy or adjust the torque so you don't over-tighten. In truth, they would have been appropriate in other rooms where I've spent months or years acquiring strategic items. Finally, they are stunning in that the backs of the stands are parallel to the wall unit, while the fronts of the stands are angled slightly forward from the wall they stand on towards the center of the room. It gives them a bit of panache or what I call understated grace. The 45 minutes of unpacking, assembling and wiping down the dusty components (from China) were worth it. They really are great and again the metal frame gives the buyer a solution that is meant to last for many years while remaining straight and true. I read a review from another buyer who said they would buy more. As skeptical as I was when I first read this review; i am sold The package arrived very quickly, everything is in good condition - there are many parts when unfolding, but it is many times easier than assembling a grill or a media center. The looks, quality and durability compared to the cheap price motivated me to take the time to share our review. Definitely recommend!
