I'm no pro, but I came to Rubik after learning how to solve once. I'm not a pro yet and won't be, I just wanted something less spooky than the branded Rubik's Cube I found when I was moving house. Inexpensive, beautiful and cheap, but good quality. It doesn't have magnets or anything, just a very basic cube, but it feels great in the hand. It should have rounded gears or something like that on the inside because as long as they are roughly aligned you can "force" a curve with very little effort. I like it because it was what I hated most about the standard Rubik's Cube - hitting when the dice didn't line up exactly.
