GoPro changed the design as follows.

The design of the housing does not correspond to the current design of the current GoPro9. You can still use the cover, but the newer GoPro requires you to remove 4 screws (don't lose them!) to remove the original cover. The new cover fits and will likely stay in place, but it doesn't "snap" in place as you might expect. it still works, just not as "seamless"
