For the last few years I have used Google Voice routed through my cell phone to make business calls. This worked great overall, but left me vulnerable to eventual signal fluctuations from the cell, which left little impression on the customer. Cell phones also tend to have a one-person-at-a-time effect, so it's often impossible to hear the other person if you both start talking at the same time. Anyway, a few months ago I decided to route Google Voice calls through PC using a DECT 6.0 headset (since I'm used to having a Bluetooth headset with my mobile phone). My first attempt was to purchase a Plantronics Savi W740 as I have used Plantronics in the past and thought it would be a great headset. Unfortunately, the promise was not true. Plantronics is extremely easy to use; However, the sound quality wasn't very good and it didn't work to answer Google Voice calls on the PC. It also routed all PC audio through the headset, which I didn't want at all. It brought me back to the drawing board; but with a better idea of what I was actually looking for. Luckily, my next find was this AT&T TL7610 headset - and it turned out to be exactly what I was looking for! I was able to get a phone, a matching dialpad, and an OBi110 VoIP phone adapter, all for less than Plantronics. Here's what I like about the AT&T headset: not as comfortable as the Plantronics model). I use the over-the-head style as I feel the ability to hang directly on the ear is for promotional purposes only. Smaller Bluetooth headsets work great; but it's hard to imagine this TL7610 hanging on my ear all day. The sound quality is excellent! I hear my clients perfectly and there were no complaints from them either. It's also very resilient to breath and wind noise, which Plantronics is terrible at picking up. The range is very good. I can move easily around the house and in the workshop. It is very easy to set up and use. All keys are intuitive and there aren't really any multi-second/multi-key combinations to remember. The only real downside to this headset is how notification tones work. For example, both when turning off the sound and when the battery is low, there is an acoustic signal, but it is different in time. This isn't a very efficient notification scheme as I don't have time to count the seconds between rings while on the phone. To be honest, voice notification would be a huge improvement in this area. If you don't intend to use it with another phone, I strongly recommend purchasing the appropriate dial pad. At first I just used the google callback feature on my tablet to make calls through this headset, but it completely breaks down when calling a number that requires you to go through a menu (e.g. type in the extension number to speak to the desired person). .Overall I am very satisfied with this headset. I think this is a great solution for me - and it was a MUCH better solution for me than using my cellphone with a bluetooth headset.
