Review on Pepper Elite Jacket by Showers Pass by Dale Toth

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Great for quiet riding and wet riding

I've just bought my second Showers Pass Elite jacket so this review is based on the one I've been using for a number of years. a jacket when it is dry and the temperature falls below 50, or when it rains or drizzles below 70. Above that it seems it's getting too hot. I use it as an outer shell for midwest fall/winter/spring rides. I've used it on trips down to -17F with two coats underneath and it's been fine. Typical riding conditions when I wear this are 15-40F in 10-20 mph wind. I'm a slow cyclist who mostly commutes to/from work, 5 miles one way. I do notice some wind penetration as another reviewer mentioned, but I find it's just what I need to stay warm and dry. Others have well described the benefits of this jacket. What I don't like about the jacket is that the sleeves are a bit long for me. I'm a tall guy (5ft 11in, 235lbs) so putting on my cycling gear is not an easy task. The chest and belly are about right, but I find the sleeves and shoulders a bit big. Another reviewer found that this obviously varies for different body types. I can compensate for the long sleeves by zipping them up when it's colder. Overall I gave this jacket 4 stars because it is one of my cycling staples and has held up EXTREMELY well through 5 winters and a few showers to keep me comfortable and not afraid of wet/cold rides. I think that's pretty much all I want from a jacket. If only the sleeves were a little shorter.
