Suitable alternative to suction cup mounts

I prefer to use the dashboard mount for my TomTom XXL 550M. The mount I first bought used the suction cup that came with the unit and like other TomTom reviewers I can't say I was completely satisfied. The suction cup fails from time to time, causing the GPS to fall off the dashboard and scaring me while driving. This dash mount works much better because the mounting arm is an integral part of the product. Pros for me: (1) It does what it's supposed to do, and by that I mean it keeps my GPS. (2) it stays in place thanks to a friction pad that easily adheres to the dashboard; That slight stickiness seems to be all you need when going over potholes, punctures, etc. And (3) the mounting arm folds down for easy storage. I see a few downsides, they don't affect me, but maybe they can affect you. (1) The base or friction pad is fairly large (8" x 8") and generally stiff (presumably pliable). This can be a problem if your dashboard is smaller or has a lot of curvature; No problem in my Honda Civic LX. (2) The friction mount is a bit sticky and I assume that over time it will pick up dust and then lose its stickiness. the time will show. (3) The ring holding the TomTom device is slightly loose. Keep in mind that it holds the block in place, but it doesn't feel too safe from a psychological point of view. On the other hand, the GPS is easy to connect and disconnect, so this can be a good compromise. All in all, I recommend this mount because it just works; and what else is needed.?

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • No power
